Growing from girl to teen is a really important change. I think the journey from girlhood into adulthood can be one of the most important transitions we make in our lives. We can build from there into our adult lives; our relationships, the sense of our strengths and how we aspire to use these in our lives.
I offer girls the space in Girls Journeying Together groups to be who they want to be, to grow their friendships and to take time to talk about what’s ahead for them with these friends. For mums and carers of these girls, I offer the opportunity to grow their sense of community and support around them as a parent/carer.
Over a decade of experience in women’s development training in a UK university has demonstrated to me how important learning, guidance and inspiration can be from other females. And how valuable it can be to have mentors and ‘sisters’ alongside us. Whilst working in Higher Education, I have qualified as an instructor for Mental Health First Aid training which provides preventative and crisis support. Also, as a mindfulness teacher and a coach.
I have lived in Nottingham with my daughter and my husband for many years (always with a pair of black and white cats!) And, I’d still consider myself a ‘Yorkshire lass’ because this is where I grew up. What I like best in life is to be out on the water in a canoe or walking in woods. I may have inherited this from the women in my family. (Mary, one of my great grandmothers was a lighthouse keeper on the Welsh coast for most of her life). The East Midlands may be a bit of a long distance from the sea but we do have incredible trees and forests!
