I offer the girls in my Girls Journeying Together groups a safe, nurturing and fun environment where they feel they can be themselves without judgement or expectation. I promise to make space for them to explore their feelings and values…and to ask as many questions as they need to.

I am drawn to supporting girls through puberty in acknowledgement that it can be an overwhelming time of great change that deserves to be recognised for all the joy, anticipation and uncertainty it brings.

Through my own training and personal development, I have benefited from many years as part of and facilitating groups; I am delighted to bring this powerful opportunity to girls at such a critical time in their lives.

Over the last 17 years I have been working with people as they experience major milestones in their lives. Alongside my role as a Girls Journeying Together Facilitator, I am a Holistic Therapist, Birth Doula, Independent Celebrant and Milestone Mentor.

I am an active and hands-on auntie to nine children, from toddlers to teens; I live in Forest Row, East Sussex with my husband and Buddy, a cuddlesome tabby cat.

Hello and a warm welcome to mothers and their daughters to Girls Journeying Together.
Girls groups have been sensitively structured to provide a safe and nurturing space for girls between 10 and 12 years of age as they experience the changes of puberty and adolescence. The focus is for the girls to participate in the group without judgment and respecting each other, giving them an opportunity to be themselves, to explore the themes of growing up and to maintain a healthy sense of self; and they make good friends.  Even if your daughter is shy to share their thoughts and feelings there will always be girls in the group that aren’t.  There are so many issues for our girls today and so many pressures in society and during our time together we speak and explore ways to help them to find life easier, with support from the girls and women around them.

Mothers are also supported during the year and then throughout your daughter’s teenage years.  My own daughter belongs to a Girls Journeying Together group and continues to be supported through her teens.

A little bit about myself; I trained in London during the early nineties and qualified in Speech and Language Therapy and am currently working with young adults with learning challenges, in the role of a Speech and Language Therapist. Other interests and trainings have been in Chinese Medicine and Shiatsu, Neurodevelopment and Sensory Processing and Child Advocacy. I am kind and compassionate in nature and very patient.

I am a mother to my daughter of 13 and a son of 24. I live in Eastbourne with my partner and daughter and little Snoodle dog called Petal.  I love to have fun, enjoy being at home and all the beauty that nature has to offer.

Please click on the Book Taster button for a free taster session. This would give your daughter and you the opportunity to ask questions, feel into it and to see if it is right for you. I look forward to welcoming you.

Warm wishes
Shelly

Sara Newton

Accredited Girls Journeying Together Facilitator

Town: Lewes, UK
Girls Journeying Together groups: Laughton

My name is Sara and I live on a farm with my family and dog. I offer a fun and safe space where girls can find out more about growing up.

I have worked with young people throughout my career and love being in their company, however we live in a time when girls particularly deserve more support.

Having a daughter has deepened my understanding of a girl’s place in the world — how important it is to give them a voice and encourage them to be proud of who they are.  Running Girls Journeying Together groups makes me feel excited about ‘walking alongside’ girls of the future, enabling them to find a true sense of identity.

Your daughter will carry the journey she makes in Girls Journeying Together for the rest of her life and make important, long-lasting friendships along the way.

My passion for creativity and people led me to run youth art projects for 20 years; now I teach deaf children and offer 1-1 Learning Mentor support in schools.

I look forward to meeting you and your daughter at a free taster session. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me at sara@ritesforgirls.co.uk

Town: Clearwater Bay, Hong Kong
Girls Journeying Together groups: Hong Kong

My name is Macha and I have the privilege of supporting and guiding girls through puberty and beyond, so that they can flourish into the women of tomorrow.

Franco-British, I was raised as a feminist, encouraged to seize all the opportunities of life. This I have done, travelling and living across Africa and Asia, enjoying a successful career in international development, with a focus on women’s rights.

I am married and have a busy and lively household of two girls, one boy and a cat.

I think teenagers are amazing and that they deserve to be cherished and encouraged by a strong community of peers and adults. The groups I facilitate are a safe, fun and warm place for girls on the cusp of adolescence to explore together what it means to become young women in today’s exciting and occasionally daunting world.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Girls Journeying Together in Hong Kong.

Hi there, my name is Faye and thank you so much for your interest in Rites for Girls. We are so excited that you are interested in this work as we really believe our Girls Journeying Together groups can help make the journey into adolescence safer, supported and more fun for our girls.

So, a little bit about me. I’m a mum to my lovely little girl Daisy, and I work as an engineer, and have my own company which I run part time, enabling me to balance work and parenting.

I was drawn to this work because I didn’t really enjoy growing up very much. I didn’t have very healthy friendships, and I felt very lonely when I had problems at home and at school. Looking back, I can see that a lot of the challenges I experienced could have been better navigated if I had had a supportive group of peers to talk to during the tough times, and a kind adult mentor would have made all the difference.

When I saw that Rites for Girls were looking to train facilitators, I knew this work was for me. I’m so excited that I will get to help guide other girls in their journey to adulthood. I’m really looking forward to helping girls build supportive healthy friendships within our Girls Journeying Together groups, so they won’t feel lonely no matter what they are experiencing in their lives.

In our groups we will talk about the challenges girls face in their lives. We will discuss hopes and dreams for the future, and explore emotions, friendships, relationships and all the issues that a young girl will face in her journey to adulthood. We will teach girls tools to develop resilience and improve and maintain self-esteem. And most importantly, our groups will be fun! A place for creating wonderful friendships and memories that the girls can take with them into adulthood.

If you have any questions, or just want to chat about Girls Journeying Together groups, please don’t hesitate to drop me an email, or sign up to a free taster session!

I will be running my groups in the Stocksbridge / Penistone area, just north of Sheffield, however, I am not currently running any groups.  Please sign up with another Rites for Girls Facilitator nearby.

Originally from Lancashire I am a mum and a fully qualified teacher with 28 years teaching experience.  In both capacities, mum and teacher, I have become increasingly concerned about young girls’ mental wellbeing and want to give daughters the chance to achieve a strong sense of self through supportive friendships and a sense of pride in their uniqueness.  I believe that facilitating Girls Journeying Together groups will achieve this and that those girls who join will benefit for the rest of their lives.

Girls need a strong community of women around them. I offer a safe and supportive space within our home to enable the girls to explore the changes that the transition to womanhood brings and to enable them to harness their own personal power with the support of their own sisterhood.  The groups will be full of fun, exploration, warmth and care.

Having a mentor to guide me would have made such a difference to so many aspects of my life and my own difficult experience of the journey into womanhood has given me the passion to make it a positive and enriching experience for girls. Girls Group is the perfect place for the girls to explore and practice self belief, self care, kindness, self awareness and self acceptance.

I deeply value the community of women that I have in my life.  Being in circle with other women has allowed a space for me to explore and voice who I am and to also witness this with other women within a safe and nurturing space.  To be seen and heard has enabled some of the most powerful transformation within me.

I live in Norwich with my husband and our daughter. Before becoming a mother I had a career as a producer working for a production company delivering live corporate events throughout the world. I gave this up as it was exhausting and was impacting too much on my life and then I decided to start a family…which is exhausting and impacts on my life…but in an infinitely better way!

It is a great honour for me to run a Girls Journeying Together group for girls in our local community. Empowering girls to stand strong within themselves and recognise their inner beauty, is a dream and passion of mine.

I offer a warm and open space to the girls I meet. The group work is a mixture of being interactive, collaborative and learning while exploring topics together on the journey. My promise is that it will be an honest, fun and down-to-earth time for the girls. I value the unique qualities of all the girls I meet and look forward to supporting them on their journey.

In terms of my background, I’m a mother myself, married with two young children and also an auntie to three nieces and a nephew. Based in Wimbledon, I’ve been a full-time mother since 2013 and my prior career is in the financial industry. I joined the Rites for Girls training programme in November 2017 because of an inner desire to help girls prepare for what lies ahead.

For any young girls reading this with their mother and wondering whether to join a group, please come along to a taster session and find out more about it. It’s hard to get a full flavour of what it is about until you’ve experienced a taster session. In the meantime, the videos on this website are helpful to watch and I hope to meet you sometime soon.

The girls in my Girls Journeying Together groups are my inspiration and they are why I founded Rites for Girls.  Each girl is so different and yet the girls share so many of the same concerns, questions and experiences.  It’s a privilege to be entrusted with guiding them into puberty and through their teens.  I can’t think of any work more fulfilling and fun.

I am the founder and director of Rites for Girls and as the originator and facilitator of Girls Journeying Together groups my vision is that every girl grows up expecting guidance as she matures and knows of a Girls Journeying Together group near to where she lives.

I studied child psychology at Cambridge University, was a counsellor to distressed teenagers, and taught sex education in schools and youth groups.  I also trained as an assertiveness trainer, a 5Rhythms shamanic dance teacher, and a business management consultant.

In my early twenties I worked as a counsellor to distressed teenagers.  Girls were harming themselves physically and mentally and I promised myself that I’d find a way to equip girls so they wouldn’t end up endangering their well-being.  After thirty years of working with young people I have found a way to give girls the robust support they need to see them through their teens.

I’m a home-educating mother of one girl, two boys, two cats, and a number of aloe vera plants; wife to a Kiwi, daughter to itinerant parents, friend to a cherished few, and lover of time alone too.  I live in the Ashdown Forest, near Forest Row in Sussex, England.  I sometimes shout at my children, accidentally step on the cat’s tail, or forget to water the plants, but I love them all.
